Tourists traveling to Vienna (Austria) by their own car or rental car and even newcomers to Vienna may have doubts about finding a parking space on the streets or alleys. Below is some important information about the park in Vienna.
Usually, the residents of Vienna pay a monthly or annual fee for parking on the streets and alleys (in their residential district or parts of neighbouring districts) and install a sticker on the windshield of the car. If you have this sticker on the windshield, the allowed parking time in the designated zone of the 23 districts of Vienna is unlimited (Unbegrenzt) except in certain cases!
If you don't have a parking sticker or sticker is not valid for the desired district, you can get a parking ticket in different ways. The maximum allowed parking time between 9 am and 10 pm is 2 hours. You are not allowed to use several parking tickets with more than maximum parking duration! To park for more than two hours, it is better to use public parking lots. The easiest way is to search for a parking around you in google or follow the Park & Ride signs!
The parking fee for parking ticket according to the time intervals is as follows:
Parking cost via application (HANDYPARKEN) is 1.25 € per 30 minutes.
You need to first fill the ticket as below to validate the ticket (otherwise you will be fined!):
And then place the parking ticket (not slip!) inside the car and behind the windshield in such a way that it is clearly visible.
In some Austrian cities, in certain streets or in the parking lot of some shopping centers, parking is free (gratis/kostenfrei/gebührenfrei) for a certain period of time, for example 1 hour or more. In order to determine the arrival time, sometimes the time is written on a piece of paper (behind the windshield) or it is marked with plastic or paper clocks for the parking attendant or parking control officer.
