002: Power Supply for Fire Control Panels – Siemens

We need electrical convertors to have a desired power (Voltage, Current, Frequency etc.) according to our requirement in fire alarm system. Converter as the name implies, converts the main voltage to a required system voltage for the main board or other components.

Nowadays power supplies apart from converting the mains voltage to system voltage provide below items as well:

• Monitor mains voltage
• Monitor the batteries
• Provide fault signal
• Provide relay output
• Provide separated and isolated outputs (for example 24 V)

As a case study we review the power supplies (converters) used in the Siemens fire alarm systems.

To choose Siemens products, you should pay attention to the type of system, production series, manufacturer's recommendation and your local standards. The following information is to show an overview and sharing experiences. Finally, you should get updated information from the official website of the company or one of the product distributors and technical service providers in your area.

• Current mentioned in the above tables are for permanent load.
• FCP1004-E is for XC10 and FC10 panels
• FP2004-A1 can be ordered for empty housing.
• FP2005-A1 is for cascading purpose (to add to an existing power supply and provide more current)
• SV24V-150W is used for ordering the spare power supply for replacement. (without accessories)
• FP120-Z1 is a standalone power supply (kit).
• FDUL221-B is a part number of spare adapter for loop tester (FDUL221)

• Power supply PSC-12M is a main and PSX-12M is an extender.
• PSFA is a power supply filter assembly.
• FCA2032-U1 is a battery disconnect module which is designed to disconnect the battery while voltage drops below 19VDC.

• B2F020 and B2F040 needs battery plug-in module E3C... or control panel plug-in module E3X...

• B2F020 needs battery plug-in module E3C... or control panel plug-in module E3X...

• Please note that according to standard you will need the emergency battery (for back up) and battery charger option for converter.

• In old series of Siemens (Algorex and Synova) there was also Filters as an additional protection parts for power supplies. Using the filters helps power supply to provide a standard Voltage, Current and Frequency.
• Normally Filters considered as an additional protection. For example against RF interference on the power line.

Old Power supplies need an external board for battery charging and monitoring the main voltage and batteries. But new generation of converters equipped with battery charger and can monitor the situation of the emergency batteries as well.
