Network cable tester is a must-have tool for network operators and technicians which used to verify the cable connections. The following problems may occur during cabling, wiring or later in operation:
- Open
- Short circuit
- Miswired
Network cable tester types:
- Signal tester
- Optical cable tester
Professional network cable testers provide us below items to verify the correct and safe wirings:
- Continuity test
- Resistance test
- Low voltage test
- Hight voltage test
- Measure the signal transmission properties (dc resistance, attenuation (loss of signal strength), noise, isolation in multi-pair cables, crosstalk (interference))
There are below levels for cable testing and troubleshooting:
- Cable Certification: Provide us only Pass or Fail information.
- Cable Qualification: Check the cable capability to support our requirement (fast Ethernet/gigabit Ethernet/Voice over internet protocol)
- Cable Verification: Check proper termination (end to end connectivity, attenuation, cross talk), wire pairing, cable length, distance to open or short circuit
Note: Testers are designed for different types of network cables and various specification. Therefore, make sure that the tester is compatible with your network infrastructure and according to your requirement. (Cable types, test types, maximum cable length etc.)
Note: Some of the cable testers are a combination of the testers for network, copper and fiber-optic cables.
Note: There are various network equipment suppliers for network testers - with specific options - which you must select your product according to your technical requirement and budget.
