IP code (Ingress protection or international protection) determines the resistance of equipment to solid particle and liquid. The standards that specifies the requirements of this protection are IEC 60529 and ISO 20653.
The weather proof parameter of each product with mechanical casing and electrical enclosure is subject to these standards.
IPXX is usually a two-digit code. The first digit (XX) indicates resistance to Solid Particle (e.g. dust) and the second digit (XX) indicates the resistance to Liquid (e.g. moisture).
- First X: (Single numeral): 0 – 6 or letter X
- Second X: (Single numeral): 0 – 8 or letter X
- X: Data is not available
- 0: No protection
- The larger the number, the higher the resistance to the agent.
