103: Inert gas extinguishing agents

Inert gases are kind of clean agents which composed of argon, nitrogen and their mixtures together or with CO2. This extinguishing agent target the oxygen side of the fire triangle.

Inert gas specifications:

  • Colourless
  • Odourless
  • Tasteless
  • Chemically inert
  • Non corrosive
  • Non conductive
  • Zero GWP (Global Warming Potential) or in other words greenhouse effect is zero
  • Zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential)

Inert gas agents types:

  • CO2
  • IG01: 100% Argon
  • IG100: 100% Nitrogen
  • IG55: 50% Argon + 50% Nitrogen
  • Inergen IG541: 52% Nitrogen + 40% Argon + 8% CO2

Inert gas (IG) extinguishers are also used in both types of extinguishers:

1- Portable extinguisher

2- Fixed extinguisher (stationary system)

  • Single sector
  • Multi sector

Cylinder ranges:

  • Volume: 5L / 10L / 67L / 80L / 140L
  • Working pressure: 150 bar / 200 bar / 300 bar
  • Test pressure: 300 bar

Note1: In higher pressure systems (e.g. 300 bar), the cylinders contain more gas to extinguish the fire. Therefore, fewer cylinders are needed for a specific area.

Advantage:

  • No Residue
  • No Fogging
