Logbook in fire alarm system is a report booklet which should be placed in the fire alarm panel enclosure or next to it. In panels with large cabinets, there is usually a special place for placing engineering documents.
Logbook types:
- Paper based logbook:
This document is prepared by the person (operator) in charge of system operation or maintenance.
- Electronic (digital) based logbook:
Events section of this document can be obtained from the fire control panel software.
Logbook structure:
Logbook usually contains the following sections:

- Maintenance responsible persons

- List of trained people for the system
- Table of periodic visits and tests

Comparison of paper based and digital based logbooks (reports):
- In paper based logbooks, sometimes there are human errors as below:
- Inaccurate time entry
- Imprecise error detection
- Imprecise error description (terms)
- Illegibility of handwriting
- Data analysis: In digital based logbooks, it is easier to filter and check specific events at a specific time!
- Accessibility: In networked fire alarm system, it is possible to access the digital logbook remotely (not only from the site).
