029: How to convert RS232 to USB

At output ports we have two type of communications:

1- Serial: Transmission of one bit of data at a time.

2- Parallel: Transmission of entire byte at once.

RS232 is a serial connection and used only for connection between to devices with maximum distance of 15 m. It has three lines (wires) of connection (TX, RX and ground) with maximum data rate of 20 Kbits per second.

System operators and commissioning engineers use adapters to convert different protocols.
USB/RS232 adapter is a protocol converter which used for converting USB data signals to/from RS232 serial port data (9 Pin COM Port).

Application: PC, Laptop, Serial modem, Label Printer, Digital Camera, Card reader, Cash register, Barcode scanner, POS, PLC, CNC, Commissioning of Electrical and Electronic Equipment

Below specification must be considered:

  • USB Type: e.g. USB 1.1/2.0 (Up to 1 Mbps data transfer rate)
  • RS232 Type: e.g. Serial DB9 plug (9 pin), Male/Female
  • Required cable: e.g. Without cable /1m/1.2m/1.5m/1.8m/2m/3m
  • Software driver
