Gas station (petrol station) is called “Tankstelle” in Austria.

Before entering, you can see the prices on the boards installed at the fuel stations. You can also see the price per litter while picking up the related nozzle.

Note: The price of refuelling in cities is much cheaper than intercity highways!

  • Filling up:

Usually there are no attendant at fuel stations and they operate on a self-service basis.

Note:

If car is not your own, type of fuel is mentioned in the car registration document (Zulassungsbescheinigung) and also interior or exterior side of the fuel tank door or on the cap of the fuel tank.

  • Payment:

In some places you can arrange the payment by your bank cards via gas machine after filling up and in some places you need to pay in the shop of the station in cash or by bank card. Only remember the fuel machine number before standing in front of cash desk!

Note: At the moment in Austria it’s not necessary to pay by card or insert the card before filling up!

There are different nozzles (düsen) in the gas stations:

  1. Diesel

B7: 7% of biodiesel content (palm oil-based blend)

B10: 10% of biodiesel content (palm oil-based blend)

B20: 20% of biodiesel content (palm oil-based blend)

  • Normal Gasoline, Euro 91

91: Octane number

  • Super 95

95: Octane number

  • Super 98

98: Octane number

  • Super 100

100: Octane number

  • E10

E10: Contains up to 10% bioethanol

  • E5

E5: Contains up to 5% bioethanol

  • E85 (not suitable for all cars!)

Ethanol gasoline blends containing 51% to 83% ethanol
