Cable lug is a connector (clamp/anchor) which used to connect a cable to electrical appliances, surfaces and other cables. One end of lug is crimped, welded or soldered (Brazed) to the cable tightly and another end is connected to the device terminals with bolt, screw or clip.
Why we use the cable lugs?
- Safety (prevent the short circuit)
- Easy installation
- Reduce the cross section with compression
How to select the cable lugs?
1- First select the cross section (wire numbers, cable diameters, etc.)
2- Select the type of the cable lug according to the terminals of electrical devices.
3- Choose the suitable screw, bolt or clip in order to fastening.
Note: Proper connection of cable lug is very important. With improper connection such as over compression, due to cable bending, vibration or other tensions to cable, there is a possibility that cable in the terminal will be weaken or even be torn. Therefore, equipment breakdown, electric shock and fire will be the consequences!
Cable lug types:
1- Flat cable lugs
- Boot : Wire ferrule / end terminal
Note: Wire ferrule or end terminals is a metal tube which used for stranded cable and crimped over its bare end wire to secure it in the screw terminals.
Note: For solid wires we don't need ferrule.
